The laboratory of William E. Carson, MD, began in 1995 at the Roswell Park Cancer Institute when Dr. Carson was appointed as an assistant professor in Surgical Oncology at the State University of New York (SUNY) at Buffalo.  The Carson laboratory moved to The Ohio State University in June of 1997.

The Carson lab is interested in the study of the immune system and how it interacts with cancers and the exploration of methods to enhance tumor eradication in experimental models that can be moved into the clinic to help cancer patients.

Dr. Carson is currently Associate Director for Clinical Research at the Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center. He is also the institutional PI for the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) and current vice-chair of the SWOG Melanoma Committee. SWOG, formerly known as the Southwest Oncology Group, is one of the largest National Cancer Institutes who supports cancer clinical trials cooperative groups in the United States.
