Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and several events and promotions have been planned throughout the community this year, many of which benefit the Stefanie Spielman Fund for Breast Cancer Research at the OSUCCC – James. Listed below are some of the activities and events that are scheduled.

BUCKEYES GO PINK GAME - OCTOBER 18
Buckeye Nation will “go pink” on Saturday, Oct. 218, for Ohio State’s football game against Rutgers.

Help turn Ohio Stadium pink by:
  • Wearing your pink accessories
  • Arriving early to receive a pink rally item (while supplies last)


National Breast Reconstruction Awareness Day (BRA Day)

In honor of National Breast Reconstruction Awareness Day (BRA Day), Ohio State’s Comprehensive Cancer Center – James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute is recognizing the many faces of breast cancer and the unique journey of every person facing a breast cancer diagnosis. Show us your BRAve Face by posting to Twitter or Instagram using #OSUBraveFace and sharing your story.

HOPE’S BOUTIQUE: ANNIVERSARY OPEN HOUSE AND SALE
An open house to celebrate the 16th anniversary of Hope’s Boutique, a specialty shop at 1145 Olentangy River Road that caters to women with cancer, is set for Friday, Oct. 17, from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Visitors that day can enjoy: amakeovers with our makeup artist, Michele Rees; a private fitting with company representatives for the latest mastectomy bras and silicone breast prostheses; 35% off all gift items, hats, swimsuits and more; and our bra free zone: comfortable fashions with a built-in slef bra for your active and leisure needs.  (Appointments are required for the bra and prostheses fittings, as well as makeup consultations; call 293-9393 to schedule.) If you can’t make it to the open house, you can still get 25%off merchandise from the shop throughout October.
 
SUNNY 95 "PINK WITH A PURPOSE"
Sunny 95 radio and The James are encouraging central Ohio women to attend one of 6 one-hour appearances at varying locations around Columbus, including Macy’s at Easton, to schedule their mammogram. As a thank-you for scheduling, patients will receive a $20 Macy’s gift card at the event and a $20 Polaris gift card at the time of their mammogram. Macy’s and Polaris Grill are donating the gift cards for this promotion. Also at these appearances, people will be encouraged to sign a pink tag in honor or memory of a loved one or friend touched by breast cancer.


October is Breast Cancer TAKE ACTION Month!

How will you take action this month?

It only takes one person to start a movement. Chris Spielman, former Ohio State and NFL football great and co-founder of the Stefanie Spielman Fund for Breast Cancer Research is kick starting this movement by matching all donations made to the Spielman Fund (up to $10,000) during the month of October.

You can easily demonstrate your dedication to advancing not just breast cancer awareness but breast cancer research by making a donation to the Spielman Fund and encouraging others to do the same. Take Action today by making a gift.


GO PINK WITH KROGER THIS MONTH
Join The Kroger Company again in 2014 as they support the Spielman Fund.Each October, Kroger holds a Pink Ribbon campaign in stores during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. During the campaign, shoppers may purchase a pink ribbon for $1 that goes to supporting breast cancer research at the OSUCCC – James. In addition, Kroger helps to highlight merchandise from manufacturers that donate a portion of proceeds to breast cancer causes. Customers can easily identify those items on store shelves during Breast Cancer Awareness Month thanks to Kroger’s specialty tags. Visit your local Kroger to purchase all of your pink gear for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.


CHERYL’S COOKIES PINK RIBBON COOKIE CARD
Send a gift to your loved ones this October to benefit cancer research! Purchase a delightful cookie card including a wrapped Cheryl's buttercream frosted heart shaped cut-out cookie tucked inside a cheerful gift box. For each gift sold, approximately 10% of the purchase price (excluding tax) will benefit the Spielman Fund. Each box includes a $5 Reward Card to use on a future purchase.
