COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State University Medical Center and the James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute are offering programs that focus on coping with cancer and other holistic practices for a variety of conditions. Pre-registration is required for all classes, which are free and in Columbus unless otherwise stated. Location and contact information is given at the end of each description.

Single Classes

Planning for Survivorship: April 14, 12 p.m. Cancer survivors will participate in a candid discussion about what is normal and what to expect as survivors. University Hospital East, Buckeye Garden Conference Room, 1492 E. Broad St. Call 614-293-6428 to register.

Work After Cancer: Post Treatment Employment Issues: April 23, 6:30 p.m. Discussion about the “life after cancer” decisions that individuals make with regard to returning to work. The Fawcett Center, 2400 Olentangy River Rd. Call 614-293-6428 to register.

Drumming Together on the Cancer Journey: May 6, 6:30 p.m. Join facilitator Eric “the fish” Paton as he leads participants in a hands-on, group-based drumming circle. Comfortable dress recommended, drums provided. Whetstone Park of Roses Shelter house. Call 614-293-6428 to register.

In Celebration of Mothers: May 10, 9 a.m. Designed specifically for mothers with cancer, learn how to visually document the important events and memories of your life through scrap booking. No experience is necessary and all materials are provided. Space is limited. Call 614-293-6428 to register.

The Health Benefits of a Plant-Based Diet: May 13, 6:30 p.m. A registered dietician will present information on the health effects and the different types of plant-based diets and give practical recommendations to increase the number and variety of plant foods you eat everyday. Building Optimism as a Protector Against Chronic Stress: May 21, 6:30 p.m. Learn how to let go of the unhealthy habits that lead to chronic stress and gather helpful strategies for bringing more optimism and joy into your life. Prepared Family Caregiver for Cancer: May 22, 12 p.m. Family caregivers are invited to learn positive approaches to problem-solving and decision-making skills to help manage a loved one’s care at home. Express Yourself Through Mask Making: June 3, 1 p.m. Explore and express your inner and outer feelings by creating personal masks. This workshop is intended for adults with cancer. Cooking for Cancer Prevention and Survivorship: June 10, 6:30 p.m. A chef and registered dietician will prepare a nutritious, plant-based meal and discuss ways to make healthy eating easier.
